Two Angry Moms is a documentary that asks the question: What happens when two "fed-up" moms try to change the school lunch program? It's a film about the movement to improve school food.
Who are the two angry moms? Amy Kalafa, filmmaker and Dr. Susan Rubin, troublemaker.
Why are they angry? It's about the quality of school food. Texas Agricultural Secretary Susan Coombs said that it will take 2 million angry moms to change the school lunch program.
What's the connection between Better School Food and Two Angry Moms?
Better School Food Founder Dr. Susan Rubin is featured in Two Angry Moms. In the film, Amy's camera follows Susan's crusade over the course of a school year. The duo travel to Washington D.C. where they meet with a reluctant USDA spokesperson, and Susan finds herself as the only unpaid citizen-advocate at a public hearing on school food. Two Angry Moms offers an inside look at what's on the menu in many of the nation's school cafeterias and captures the step-by-step transformation of one dedicated Westchester, NY school district. Part exposé, part "how to", the film goes beyond why and how schools have been infiltrated by junk food peddlers, to demonstrate workable strategies for replacing the junk with real, whole food. Existing models in schools from Connecticut to California offer instruction as well as inspiration.
If Two Angry Moms is the movie, then Better School Food is the movement.
